UPDATED: Wightlink’s Russell Kew has stepped down from his position as CEO and has now left the cross-Solent operator, it has been revealed today (Tuesday).
Kew, who has been the head of the company since 2009, has left by mutual agreement with the Board of Directors.
The current COO John Burrows now takes over as Chief Executive Officer until a replacement can be appointed.
Chairman Steven Lowry told staff earlier this week:
“On behalf of the entire board, I’d like to recognise the outstanding contribution which Russell has made to the development of the company. Under his leadership, and thanks to your hard work, the business achieved record high levels of reliability and punctuality as five new ships were brought into service. He also led our future plans to invest £45m introducing a new ship and modernising our terminals on the Fishbourne-Portsmouth route.”
Russell Kew commented:
“I am very sad to be leaving Wightlink, which I have been proud to lead since 2009. But it is the right time for me to hand over the reins as Wightlink continues to invest for the future.”
Steven Lowry concluded:
“The board and I look forward to working with John, and everyone at Wightlink, into the future.”
