The now-derelict Wight City complex in Sandown has been put on the market with a guide price of £2.5million.
Interested parties are being invited to submit an offer for the site at the junction of Fort Street and Culver Parade, which was once the thriving home of Colonel Bogey’s nightclub, Jolly Sailor pub and a seaside arcade.
Outline planning permission for a new apartment block consisting of 47 residential apartments and a ground floor restaurant/bar was granted by the Isle of Wight Council back in December 2014, but the site has remained derelict since its closure at the end of 2012. To comply with conditions placed on the outline permission more detailed plans must be submitted by 17th December 2017 with work beginning within around 2 years after that.
Goadsby Land & Commercial in Southampton have been favoured with instructions to market the unique development site, which extends to 0.54 hectares.
Phil McWilliam from Goadsby says:
“Located on the south east of the Island, Sandown is renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches, but has sadly been lacking any major investment during recent years. We are confident that the successful bidder for the site will be investing in an exciting scheme, which will be a catalyst for additional development in the area and will give a long term boost to the town’s economy with an increase in visitor numbers and employment opportunities.
“This is a rare and unique opportunity to acquire an outstanding development site”.
A viewing day is being held on Tuesday 24th May between 11:00 and 13:00 for interested buyers. The deadline for offers is 12.00 noon on Tuesday 28th June.
