The annual residents’ recycling and waste survey has been launched and will run until 23rd January.
The Isle of Wight Council is asking for your views and ideas on how the Island can recycle more and reduce its waste. The Isle of Wight Council is responsible for the collection, treatment, recycling and disposal of household recyclables and waste on the Island.
Councillor Karen Lucioni, Cabinet lead for waste, said:
“We’ve made great progress as a community in recycling but sadly some rubbish produced by households locally still ends up in a landfill. We want to reduce that as much as we can and continue, with our waste partners, to provide the best service possible.
“Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and we will carefully consider every response we receive. This information will help to inform the decisions that we make about how the Islands waste and recycling services can be even better.”
Natasha Dix, strategic manager for environment, said:
“Thank you in advance for taking the time to help us shape the future waste and recycling services for our Island.
“Residents have already shown that they are up for the challenge of reducing their waste and I would like to thank everyone for their efforts so far. Once the survey has finished, we’ll use the results to look at possible improvements to the existing services so it’s more important than ever that you make sure you have your say in good time.”
The consultation launched on Tuesday and will run until midnight on 23rd January 2023.
You can fill the survey in online www.iow.gov.uk/consultations
Paper versions will be available by request and will be available at all council-run libraries.
If filling in a paper copy of this survey, please return by 17:00 on Monday 23rd January 2023 to: Waste Management, County Hall, High Street, Newport, PO30 1UD.
Unfortunately, no responses received after the closing date can be considered by the council.

A family member for years in sandown puts non recyling in black bags in green bin..and all his wood, rubble ie building stuff from the flats hes refurbing.he never recycles and yet still the dustmen take his stuff and empty on lorry EVERY SINGLE TIME! No warning …nothing
Whats point of recycling when they take crap like that anyway.
Hes never had up on it and hes just 1 person.
Im told not too use black bags for recyling but he does. .full of builders stuff. Its crazy
Well that link doesn’t work does it???
think this is the correct link https://beta.iow.gov.uk/recycling-and-waste/how-are-we-doing/annual-customer-satisfaction-survey/
What can be done better……?
Why not give your hard working workers a decent pay rise, to start with.
If Wight Fibre stopped shoving leaflets in people doors there would be less rubbish to dispose of.
Junk Mail from all Companies should be Stopped.
Make sure every household is recycling and doing it CORRECTLY!!!!!
People in my street don’t recycle at all. Everything goes in black bin bags.
The collection guys could put a sticker on the bin to notify the household they are not recycling correctly.
Shame the council can’t charge these lazy, clueless people more Council Tax. These types don’t give a fig about the environment and how important recycling is.
I remember a few years ago when you could only use 1 wheelie bin&no extra bags, nowdays some households put out 2 wheelie bins&bags
Council tax should be calculated on the amount of Rubbish an Household creates
I have 1 car parked along the Road, many households have 3 or more, yet we all pay the same amount of Council Tax
Many Companies on the Island who have Depots for their vehicles are starting to park
Vehicles along Roads, rather than taking them back to the depot
In my days I would drive to work, collect Company vehicle go&do a days work&then leave the Company vehicle back at the yard
Is there a place on Island one can dispose of electrical products??
YES, THE TIP !
The tip but you have to book a slot, you cannot just go there, well you couldn’t back in the summer. Logon to the council website, enter your email and password then find the link to book your date and time.
