A yellow weather warning for very strong winds across the Isle of Wight has been issued by the IW Met Service.
Islanders are being warned that adverse weather is expected to hit over the next couple of days, with the potential for travel disruption and a likelihood that outdoor events and activities will be significantly affected.
Forecasters say that a spell of very strong southwesterly winds will develop as we move into Friday evening and then throughout Saturday. Gusts in excess of 50mph are expected with occasional gusts of 60mph looking likely on some exposed hills and coasts.
There is the risk of windblown debris such as leaves and possibly small branches with the outside risk of the odd falling tree. Outdoor events and activities will be significantly affected, as well as the risk of delays and disruptions to travel including cross-Solent travel.
Thankfully, the winds will ease later on Saturday evening.
The warning is in force from 15:00 on Friday (10th August) until 21:00 on Saturday.
