Ventnor Rugby Club has handed over a cheque for £400 to Team Teddy, to help a 2-year-old boy who has a rare, life-limiting illness. The money was raised during this year’s Isle of Wight Randonnee when the club acted as a marshalling post and feeding station for the thousands of cyclists who took part in May’s event. As has become an annual tradition, the club has made a charity contribution from the monies taken on the day. For 2024, a total of £400 has been donated to Team Teddy via The Lily Foundation. 2-year-old Teddy Ward – whose father, Dan, is a local rugby player and physio – suffers from mitochondrial disease. Very little is known about the disease so the Lily Foundation is funding much-needed research into the condition. You can read more about Teddy’s story at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/rugby-players-set-to-scale-great-heights-for-little-teddy-ward/.
Roly Toombs, Ventnor RFC’s Randonnee team organiser, says:
“We are delighted to make this donation to Dan, Jess and young Teddy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the VRFC volunteers who worked so hard to participate in another highly successful Randonnee as well as the retailers on the Island who provided such proactive assistance to the cause – in particular Sainsburys and Norris Family Grocers in Niton”.
Dan and his teammates will be undertaking The Three Peaks Challenge in September in support of Team Teddy. More information can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/team/rangerstakeonthe3peaks.
