Vectis Historic Vehicle Club is organising a family car show at the Isle of Wight County Showground in Northwood this coming weekend, raising funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight and Ability Dogs For Young People.
The event is to be held on Sunday (6th July) between 10:00 to 16:00. Entry is £5 with children under 17 going free.
Attendees can enjoy a range of activities including:
- A bouncy castle for younger visitors
- A Viking re‑enactment by local group Wolfguard
- An 11:00 performance by the Vectis Corps of Drums
- A raffle with prizes like a hotel stay in Freshwater and attraction passes
- A variety of food stalls and live music beginning at 12:00
- A display of historic vehicles from the 1920s to the present day
Isle of Wight High Sheriff Jacqueline Gazzard will attend at 12:00, and Councillor Karl Love will serve as event judge.
The club has over 270 members and has been active since 1973, regularly meeting at Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s John Cheverton Centre in Newport. Its annual open day has raised several thousand pounds for local charities, most notably £50,000 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
From the club, Linda De Bues said:
“This year we wanted to expand the show, to make it more family‑inclusive. The children of today are tomorrow’s custodians of these beautiful cars.
“We have supported Mountbatten Isle of Wight for two decades because we recognise the value of its end‑of‑life care.
“For 12 years, we have supported Ability Dogs for Young People, since they came to visit us during a club meeting. The first dog we funded was a poodle called Jack, who is named in honour of our former president.”
