The National Police Air Service helicopter is circling in the skies above Seaview this morning (Monday) in the search for a missing man.
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary – with the assistance of the NPAS crew from Bournemouth – are conducting enquiries in the East Wight in a bid to locate the male, who is aged in his 20s.
Family members say they are growing increasingly concerned for the man‘s welfare, especially as he was seriously injured the last time he went missing.
The individual – who Island Echo is not naming at this stage – was last seen leaving home earlier in the night.
The search is currently focusing on the coastal areas of Seaview and Nettlestone between Ryde and St Helens.
UPDATE @ 06:50 – The missing man has been located and, according to his family, taken to St Mary’s Hospital under the Mental Health Act.
It has been confirmed that Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were also involved in the search, with volunteers from WightSAR also called in to assist.
Coastguard Officers located the high risk missing person inland sometime before 05:00.
