Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are assisting the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service on Union Street in Ryde this morning (Wednesday).
The road is currently blocked to all traffic as crews work to move a poorly patient from a flat above a shop.
1 fire appliance from Ryde is on scene alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport, with a paramedic crew and ambulance officer also in attendance.
The call for help came in at around 09:00.
Emergency services are currently working to remove the patient from a second floor window.
Southern Vectis say their buses are diverting locally and are unable to serve Union Street at this time.
UPDATE – The incident has been brought to a close and the road has now re-opened to all traffic.

No news as to why they couldn’t come out the conventional way. There will be speculation.
My guess is size!
What about a spinal problem where unable to sit on the conventional carrying chair, narrow stairway, attached to medical appliances, the list is long and not always down to size. Hope the casualty recovers quickly and well done to the emergency services working together in very difficult circumstances.
Why bother to guess at all then!!
Doesn’t Ryde Fire Station have a hydraulic ladder engine? Or is just Newport’s full timers that can use it?
Can’t just be a fat slob, as Mc D’s only just opened, so maybe something more serious.
