The family of 70-year-old Robert Ian Forman from Carisbrooke have paid tribute to the ‘wonderful husband, father and grandfather’ who died in a single-vehicle collision on Military Road last month.
Ian – as he was more commonly known as – was riding his blue Honda motorcycle along the popular coastal route on 16th August when tragedy struck. His motorcycle left the road and came to rest on top of him in a roadside ditch.
Emergency services responded to the scene at 15:23 but, despite the best efforts of Police and paramedics, as well as flying doctors from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, his life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead at the scene, as previously reported.
Paying tribute to the 70-year-old, his family have said:
“My husband Robert Ian Forman, fondly known as Ian, was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.”
This collision remains under investigation. Anyone with any information that could assist ongoing enquiries surrounding this collision is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44230331189.

Very sad news, R.I.P
I saw a Motorcyclist a few days after this sad accident go along the Military Road a few weeks ago at I would say a Tonne+, so fast my van shook and I could not read his registration number.
There needs to be rules on the Military Road, it is an Autobahn with NO
rules.
Not a good moment to make reference to a speeding motorcycle, the circumstances are still under investigation, there is a suggestion in your comment that speed was a contributing factor.
Have some respect.
The rules on Military Rd are the same as for the rest of the Country, there is a speed limit, and that should be adhered to. If you experienced a motorcycle doing a ” Tonne+ ” that was clearly an individual breaking the law (Rules). Those breaking the law need to act responsibly for the safety of themselves and everyone else.
I offer my condolences to the family and friends of this obviously much-loved man who sadly lost his life.
Kev I am not saying this poor gentleman died due to speeding
I am just stating what happens on a regular basis on the Military Road.
Speeding is a problem on the island and until something is done about
Speeding, sadly accidents will keep happening.
My thoughts are with the poor Mans family.
I am trying to make the islands Roads safe for everyone to use,
please don’t mis-interprete my message.
Paul, I appreciate what you are saying, but there is a time and a place and this was not the best time to put across your point. There is a problem with speeding across the Island we all know that.
This headline news is about a family tragedy. Your comment is about a speeding motorcyclist, I will reiterate this is not good timing.
You mean well I can see that, but you have totally chosen the wrong place and time to put your point across.
Definitely. Wrong time and place. Condolences to the man’s family xx
And how has this negative insensitive cowardly comment ‘saving people’?
I totally agree,it certainly does insinuate a negative motive. Bloody coward er not you Kev,Paul
Kev where the lovely Bev
For goodness sake what an inappropriate message what a insensitive thing to write at this time. Foolish
