58-year-old Timothy Cale will stand trial in November accused of causing the death of a cyclist in Shorwell over 2-and-a-half years ago.
It was on 5th June 2022 that Simon McQueen-Mason, a university professor, lost his life on Main Road in Shorwell. The 64-year-old was riding a Colnago ACR bicycle towards the village when he was involved in a collision with a Land Rover at the junction with New Barn Lane, as reported by Island Echo at the time.
Sadly, there was nothing that could be done to save Professor McQueen-Mason’s life.
Collision investigators from the mainland spent several hours at the scene piecing together the events that led to the fatal collision. In the years that have followed, officers have been pursuing criminal charges in relation to the actions of the Land Rover driver.
It was back in November that Island Echo revealed that the driver would face charges, with Timothy Cale, of Main Road, Shorwell, appearing before magistrates in December.
Mr Cale entered a not guilty plea at that first hearing which led to the case being adjourned to the Crown Court.
At the Isle of Wight Crown Court yesterday (Monday), a trial date of the beginning of November was set by His Honour Judge Bowes KC.
