Motorists travelling between Ryde and Sandown are facing yet more disruption due to the immediate closure of the main road through Brading, in addition to the existing closure at Morton Common. A water leak on New Road, between Brading and Yarbridge, is causing significant disruption for those heading up and down the East Coast of the Island. All traffic is being diverted away from the area via Brading Downs or Bembridge, but local traffic is attempting to use The Mall. Vehicles are said to be at a standstill. Motorists have already been hit by the closure of Morton Common due to flooding over the past week-and-half, with traffic having to divert via Yaverland in both directions. This remains the case. The closure of New Road will add additional travel time onto your journey today (Sunday). UPDATE @ 19:46 – The road remains closed as Southern Water undertake works near the middle of the carriageway. There are no workmen on site, however. Southern Water got in touch earlier this afternoon to say they were not aware of any leaks, but a notice on site suggests the work is indeed being carried out by the utility company. Some motorists are ignoring the road closure signs as the road is physically – but not legally – passable. Disruption is expected to continue into Monday. UPDATE MONDAY @ 19:56 – New Road has now reopened in both directions.
