Residents and visitors are being reminded of key routes between the Island’s ferry ports and Bestival at Robin Hill Country Park, which are expected to be particularly busy this coming Thursday, Friday and Monday.
Thousands of people are expected to travel to the music festival which takes place at Downend near Newport between 8th September and 11th September.
A map has been produced showing the key routes for Bestival traffic and designated car parks. As the roads around Robin Hill Country Park will be busy during the event, especially on the Thursday, Friday and the egress on Monday 12th September; residents are encouraged to avoid these routes unless they are going to the event or other local businesses which remain open as usual.
Residents are also reminded that Rowlands Lane, Havenstreet will become a one way system from 09:00 on Wednesday morning with vehicles only be able to travel in a southbound direction from the Havenstreet Main Road junction to the Downs Road. This arrangement will remain in place until 18:00 on Sunday, when the one way system will be reversed and traffic will flow from the Downs Road to the Havenstreet Main Road junction. The one way system will remain in place on Saturday and Sunday.
There will also be restrictions to public footpaths and bridleways close to the Bestival site during the event, and a 30mph speed limit will also be in force on roads leading to and outside the site for safety reasons.
Motorists are also being advised that to assist in the free flow of traffic along key routes, vehicles illegally parked on roads designated and signed as ‘clearways’ will be towed away.
Residents near the site are advised that waste collections will continue as usual for properties near the Bestival site,(including Rowlands Lane) although homeowners should ensure waste is out for collection by 07:00 as pick-ups may be earlier than normal.
