A static caravan being transported through the middle of Ryde Town has become wedged on a tight bend, causing travel delays in the area this afternoon (Tuesday). The caravan is just inches away from hitting the former Barclay’s bank building and is butt up against a lamp post. It appears the lorry driver took the turn too wide as they travelled through the area at just before 14:00. As a result, High Street/Garfield Road is now blocked – including access to the pedestrianised precinct. It’s unclear why the long vehicle didn’t follow the HGV through route via St John’s Road. Traffic is heavy through the town due to the one-way system being blocked, with delays on Lind Street and along Cross Street to George Street.

I bet if left overnight the local ‘lads’ will soon have it away. Likely end up down Oaky, with a growing tent one end and a spaced out group of u.c funded lads the other
Are you actually OK?
Tiresome prejudice.
Feble pathetic comment, sunshine.
The island always guarantees people a good laugh
Health and Safety at it’s best.
Could have taken a building down or persons.
I blame sat nav , it unfortunately doesn’t measure the vehicle!!!!!!
Still better story than drug/drink driving…… lol…..
Actually most decent professional drivers purchase a truck sat nav.
Lots of satnavs have settings for vehicle heights and lengths. Not the cheap ones though.
Commercial sat nav’s DO hold vehicle dimension data. But you have to care enough to buy one and then drive in a safe, professional manner.
Exactly, that is what I tried to point out in my comment. As a past professional driver of all sizes of vehicles , I used a Truck SatNav where you input the vehicles dimensions and weight. A true professional would not hesitate in purchasing one.
Brain before sat nav is a much better idea….
I blamed the old farts that’s drove
Your English doesn’t get any better does it!!!
It was a young driver, idiot.
Poor driver, I hope someone offered them a cup of tea
These things happen. Must of been a horrible day for him
Why are they called static homes when they plainly are not?
Well… This one is
Cracking job chap, do you actually know the size of yoyr liad?
Driving lessons might be more appropriate than a cup of tea,
Also the vehicle looks totally wrong for the job in hand ,just look at the overhang
Not surprised in the least – it’s pure luck that one if these hasn’t hurt someone by now. Seen them being driven recklessly and carelessly and reported to Police.
I’m so glad that no clever-dick has tried to make a banal joke about a static home that’s ended up static…
Should’ve gone to Specsavers
We was riding shotgun behind it!
Glad we hooked a right and took the shortcut !
Bloody mainlanders following sat nave !
I am surprised a G ‘ ESTAPO Enforcement officer didn’t slap a
Parking ticket on him
If he stayed there any longer
IW Council would have charged him Council tax
Honestly we watched him (I say driving off the ferry today) he took the corner of the mobile home off along the barriers …….. we all cheered as he did so …… co worker was as useless as a chocolate teapot ……… think the pair of them should take up banger racing!!!
Why did you cheer??
Left hand down a bit.
well firstly we cant see but he should of had a courier car with him with his top light flashing orange
Haven’t seen a courier vehicle for years attending wide loads.
There’s a very real danger of getting a wedgy in Ryde right now!!!
I thought they were drawless in Ryde!
