A worker at Lynnbottom Tip has been airlifted to Southampton’s Major Trauma Centre after suffering what is understood to be crush injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene off Briddlesford Road at around 07:45 this morning (Monday), as first reported by Island Echo.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service deployed a paramedic crew, an enhanced care paramedic and an operational commander to the household waste and recycling centre, with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance scrambled from its base at Thruxton.
Island Echo is told that the incident has involved machinery at the site. It’s said that the worker was making an ‘adjustment’ at the time.
An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson has said:
“We can confirm an incident occurred at Lynnbottom Waste Transfer Station, Isle of Wight.
“The incident is being investigated by Thalia waste services”.
Lynnbottom has remained open as normal today.
UPDATE TUESDAY – A spokesperson for Thalia has said:
“Following yesterday’s incident at Lynnbottom, Isle of Wight. We can confirm a colleague was injured and is receiving medical support. This incident is under investigations and it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this stage.
“Our thoughts are with our injured colleague, and we send thanks to the Emergency Services for their quick response.”
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive has said:
“We are aware of this incident and making enquiries.”




























































































A terrible incident, My best wishes to worker involved and indeed all those concerned. Once again the Air Ambulance is needed, Exactly where would we be without this vital service, The Air Ambulance is needed all too often.
Mmmm new owners and a new serious accident… not a result of cost cutting or some such scheme surely? I wish the worker a speedy recovery and best wishes to his family, oh and I look forward to the accident report being published.

lets hope the staff member makes a good recovery, i use this site on a regular basis and the staff are always polite, helpful and aware of what’s going on. lets hope lessons are learnt after this horrible accident and safety is put at the centre of how the site operates.
