The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to an emergency at Lynnbottom Tip at Downend this morning (Monday).
Flying doctors were called into action at just before 07:45 as colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service rushed to the household waste and recycling centre off Briddlesford Road.
The distinctive yellow and green air ambulance has touched down within the tip site, where an ambulance crew, enhanced care team and an operational commander are present.
Medical teams are tending to an individual, but it is unclear at this early stage if the emergency response is to a medical episode or a trauma incident.
The air ambulance remains on the ground having landed at just gone 08:00.
UPDATE @ 08:54 – Island Echo understands that a worker at the site has suffered a crush injury. The casualty has been flown directly to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital as a result.
Lynnbottom Tip is expected to remain open as normal today for trade and public.
UPDATE @ 10:58 – A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“We can confirm an incident occurred at Lynnbottom Waste Transfer Station, Isle of Wight. The incident is being investigated by Thalia waste services”.

We don’t respect these services enough people who work to sort our ish out hooe they are okay and always respect too for the air ambulance and all they do. Look forward to a good outcome to this story!
This is true, it’s probably not a nice job but I’ve always found them pleasant enough and helpful.
I’m sure they do get some uncalled-for abuse though.
