2 teenage girls cut off by the tide on a hazardous section of the East Wight coast have been rescued tonight (Tuesday).
It was just before 21:40 that Bembridge RNLI was paged to launch the Inshore Lifeboat from Lane End amid reports 2 children were in difficulty near St Helens.
Within just 5 minutes of hitting the water, in the dark, the volunteer lifeboat crew had located the girls on a well-known part of the local coastline between Priory Bay and Nodes Point – known for catching out walkers with its muddy landslip.
Thankfully, the teenagers were not physically stuck and were able to get aboard the D-class lifeboat. It’s thought they raised the alarm as to their plight.
Just minutes later, in what is noted as a remarkably quick rescue, the 2 casualties were safely transferred ashore at St Helens Duver.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams (CRTs) were awaiting, alongside Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
The girls have escaped any injury and have now been taken home by Police.
All search and rescue assets have been stood down.
It is the second rescue within the past few hours for the Island’s CRTs, with Ventnor and Needles involved in an incident near St Catherine’s Point.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

Why do you not show the moron’s faces?
They obviously had mobiles, tell them to install a tide app.
