From potholes and resurfacing to roadworks, grass cutting and street cleaning, Islanders are being asked to give their verdict on the services provided by Island Roads.
The highways contractor has today (Tuesday) launched its annual customer survey, giving residents until the end of September to say what they think is working – and where improvements are still needed.
It follows another busy 12 months on the Island’s road network, with resurfacing and improvement schemes taking place across the Island alongside a significant programme of works by utility companies.
In fact, Island Roads says around 70% of all roadworks seen across the Island during the past year have been carried out by utility firms maintaining and upgrading essential services.
Meanwhile, Island Roads has completed schemes in areas including Ryde, Ventnor, Sandown, Wroxall, Brading, Binstead, East Cowes, Freshwater and Newport, as well as resurfacing a further 7km of highway following its annual condition survey.
Other work has ranged from improvements to cycle tracks and pedestrian safety measures to repairs and protection work on bridges and walls.
Residents taking part in the survey can rate services including road and pavement maintenance, resurfacing, winter gritting, street cleaning, traffic management, grass and verge cutting and Island Roads’ customer service.
Island Roads Service Director Steve Ashman said:
“It has been an incredibly busy year on the Island’s road network, and we want to hear the views and experiences of residents to help us understand where we need to focus our efforts in the coming year.
“We have listened to what people have told us in the past and we are doing more to collaborate with utility companies when we plan our works to try and ease traffic congestion. We have also improved our website so that people can find information more easily and we are working to try and improve our signage on site to help people navigate roadworks.
“We know there is still more to do and we are working hard to address issues that are raised with us. Your feedback is an important part of how we assess our performance and helps us to understand where we need to focus our efforts in the future.
“We would encourage as many people as possible to take a few minutes to complete the survey. Whether you have positive feedback, constructive criticism or simply want to tell us about your experience, we want to hear from you.”
The survey also asks about the use of reporting tools such as FixMyStreet and Island Roads’ wider contribution to the community.
It is open from today until midnight on Wednesday 30th September and can be completed online via the Island Roads website, with paper and large-print versions available on request.
The survey launches ahead of more major works this month, including the strengthening and improvement of the Medina Way dual carriageway bridge and upgrades to bus stops at Arreton.
