Four Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team members travelled to Nomansland in the New Forest for the season opening Antelope RT 10 mile time trial on Saturday.
The course was set on an undulating road that started at the bottom of the New Forest and snaked its way up through several small villages. With this being the first open time trial of the year there was a quality field of 57 riders.
First up for the team was Martin Sanders, starting his first ever race in team colours. After the first few miles, Sanders settled into his rhythm and set a solid time of 28:49 for the hilly 10 mile course. This gave him a commendable 37th place.
Next up was Matt Allsopp, riding in his first time trial of the year. Allsopp powered across the top of the New Forest to set a time of 27:40 to take 31st place, and set himself a good marker for the rest of the year.
Starting at number 44, James Ebdon took to the start line. Using his good recent form he rode the course in 25:18 to take 9th place overall, an excellent result and a hint at things to come as the season progresses.
As team leader for the day, Simon Ambrosini started last out of the four-man squad. With the course suiting Ambrosini’s riding style, he posted a fantastic time of 25:13 to take 7th place overall. This put the team in 2nd place in the team competition to cap off a great day’s racing.
