A person face down in the water and being swept out to sea was rescued by HM Coastguard during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to Ventnor seafront at 01:18 following a 999 call reporting that a swimmer was in difficulty.
Within just 6 minutes the team were on scene and soon realised the casualty was face down in the water and going under.
A specially trained Coastguard Rescue Officer (CRO) was quickly deployed into the water to conduct a snatch water rescue.
The CRO was able to successfully reach the individual, who was recovered ashore and passed into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police.
Sea conditions are said to have been moderate with waves breaking. A spokesperson for Ventnor CRT says even for a strong swimmer it was too dangerous to swim in those conditions.
The condition of the casualty is unknown at this time.

Don’t think he was a swimmer! Bit late for a swim at 1 in morning!
