Police have been in attendance on Dodnor Lane in Newport this afternoon (Thursday) after receiving reports of a suspicious item near to the Island’s hospital.
Several Police vehicles were mobilised to the scene on the industrial estate shortly after 13:20.
As well as rendezvousing near the Island Mobility showroom, officers stood guard at the entrance to Sevenacres, near to the helipad site.
It’s understood the concern surrounded the area surrounding the Laidlaw unit, the ambulance station – which is undergoing refurbishment – and Sevenacres Mental Health Unit.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said that the item has been located and has been removed.
The incident has now been stood down.
so what was it or is it top secret? did they bash the doors down and skid thier cars around shouting Guv,Guv,Guv on the radio..
So several police units to a suspicious item 0 police units to a hit and run car crash makes sense
Why did all the police turn up,no one was injured,nor the road was blocked (relating to excuse on BMW crash in lake )

Actually Ting Tong, ‘woodentop’ is a general, nationwide non-complimentary term used by non-uniformed officers (CID) to describe the lower ranks of uniformed officers. Be quite ironic if the Pompey woodentops referred dismissively to their own kind on the Island in that way.
