UPDATED: The Floating Bridge service between East and West Cowes has been suspended this morning (Sunday).
Floating Bridge No. 6 has been brought to a halt on the East Cowes side of the River Medina as a result of what is understood to be an issue with the vessel’s prow.
Despite the official website stating that the service is running to timetable, the Floating Bridge has been out of action since at least 08:30.
A temporary passenger launch is being arranged but may not be in place for another hour, according to passengers waiting patiently on both sides of the river.
It is unclear at this early stage if this will affect the proposed Christmas and New Year timetable.
UPDATE @ 09:56 – Island Echo understands that a broken prow hinge is to blame for this morning’s suspension of service.
The floating bridge is expected to be taken to the Cowes side of the river this afternoon for repairs to be undertaken.
UPDATE @ 10:30 – The Isle of Wight Council have confirms that the floating bridge service is currently suspended due to a technical issue.
A foot passenger launch service will commence shortly.
The service is expected to resume at 05:00 tomorrow (Christmas Eve – Monday).
UPDATE MONDAY – The Cowes Floating Bridge is now back in service, as expected.
