SUN SHINES FOR ANNUAL REGATTA

ryderowingregatta2013_005Glorious weather heralded the opening Regatta of the Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Association Championship program for 2014, hosted by Ryde Rowing Club, at Appley on Saturday (17th May).

The Regatta had attracted an entry of 115 crews and scullers from twelve clubs, including the three Island Clubs – slightly up on last year. This large entry required a nineteen race program over the 1800m course which runs from Appley Beach out towards Ryde Pier where a racing turn takes place and there was some excellent racing and close finishes with the full program of events was completed in near perfect conditions.

Micky Jenner finished 2nd in the Men’s Senior Sculls and there was good performances from the three young Ryde Men’s Novice crews, the Senior Pair of Sam Cocker and Ben Ade and Novice Sculler Andy Hicks.

On the Sunday at Shanklin Regatta – the Junior Senior Crew were able to repeat their success – but the Ladies Junior Pair just missed out finishing in 2nd place – however there was a great performance from J16 Sculler Stephen Soal to finish in 3rd place with encouraging performances from all the other Ryde crews.
