Shanklin’s Joel Morris Dance Academy won a total of 8 gold medals at the South Coast Classical Competition over the weekend.
This weekend the Joel Morris Dance Academy Shanklin had another successful competition at the South Coast Classical Competition. Winning a total of eight gold medals and earning the highest mark for ballet solos.
The academy won on top of the gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal and extra awards for “best trio’” for Lianna Murray, Martha Kendal and Heaven-Lea Dixey’s classical trio (this trio also came 2nd at the All England Reginal final this summer in Portsmouth).
An award for “Best group” for Joel Morris’s new ballet group that was created just for this competition and winning with a score of 93! Lily Dulston won the award for “highest mark under 7” after winning her very first ballet solo against 20 other young dancers with 93 points.
Other ballet solo winners include Heaven-Lea Dixey winning the 11 and 12 years old section followed by Lianna Murray with silver and Lily Williams with 4th. Charlotte Rayner won the 9 and 10 year old ballet solo with Thea Vernal coming in 2nd and Mabel Moorman in 4th place. Elkie McGregor came second in the 8 and 9 year old section. Annabelle Smith came 2nd in the 14 year old section with Sophie Crombie placing 3rd.
Joel Morris Dance Academy’s junior team won their ‘waltzing cat’ ballet group also with an outstanding mark of 90. And they were also the youngest group in the south to compete at The All England regional finals this past summer.
Speaking on the success, Joel Morris, has said:
“It’s amazing to see the talent in the younger part of the school blooming more and more as each year goes by and the senior part of the school gaining places at top dance schools”.
This September again as many as 6 young Islanders went on to train at the UK’s top dance schools including The Central School of Ballet London, Italia Conti, Laine Theatre Arts and Ballet Theatre UK.
