A yellow weather warning for strong wind has been issued for the Isle of Wight by local forecasters IW Met Service.
A spell of adverse winds will develop throughout Tuesday with gusts of up to 50mph likely in some places.
Large waves are expected along the east and south coasts during the morning and the west and south coast during the afternoon and evening. This poses a risk to small watercraft.
There may be some travel delays including to cross-Solent travel, as well as potential problems for outdoor events.
Small amounts of tree debris is expected with falling leaves, twigs and possibly some small branches.
Jamie Russell, Chief Forecaster at IW Met Service, says:
“Our summer wind warning threshold is at 50mph as there is a higher potential for people being caught outdoors, as well as the trees being in full leaf. Our wind warning threshold for winter is 65mph”.
The warning is in place from 06:00 until 20:00 on Tuesday 30th July 2019.

A normal day then !!
We live on an island, you can expect wind and waves
May the forecaster should take a better look around!!
Perhaps it makes more sense to warn people of this as gales are very uncommon during the summer months. ALso the wind direction created very large waves on the more touristy beaches of east wight which were very hazardous to small watercraft etc. Its better to warn and be safe than to not warn and then people in trouble moan that there was no warning! Then again people like you will moan no matter what happens!
