Ryde Rowing Club competed just across the Solent at the largest one day regatta in the country on Saturday, where clubs from the two South Coast Coastal Rowing Associations compete together for the only time before the South Coast Rowing Championships in September.
The Wightlink-sponsored Club’s J16 Coxed Four of Ben Toms, Joel Smith, Jacob Redstone, Joe Groves and Cox Austin Smith performed well at the Southsea Regatta to finish 3rd in a strong field – just behind old rivals Itchen in a race won by Deal from the Coast Rowing Association.
For the Men’s Novice Fours race Tom Kearney replaced Joel Smith – and they to raced well to finish 6th in a strongly contested Novice Fours final of eleven crews.
Dale Buckett raced in the Men’s Novice Sculls, where in spite of a strong finish; he just failed to make the final.
The Men’s Junior Pair of James Smith and Will Ford struggled a little in their heat; also failing to make the final, following an accident witch damaged their boat earlier in the week that forced a last minute switch of equipment.
Mike Jenner competed in a composite Men’s Masters Four with BTC and Kate Whitehurst race in a composite Ladies Novice Four with Newport.
