A pair of projects to future-proof Isle of Wight water mains are set to be completed several weeks early.
Southern Water is upgrading some 6,000m of pipes – some dating from the mid-Victorian period – on Horsebridge Hill and Elenors Grove, Fishbourne. Over the course of 2026 it will replace another 7,000m across the Island, reducing the need for emergency works due to bursts, and interruption to supply, as well as cutting leakage.
The company has today shared that the Horsebridge Hill works are set to be completed three weeks ahead of schedule on 27th March, and the works in Elenors Grove should be wrapped up a week ahead of time, on 20th March.
A Southern Water spokeswoman said:
“Our mains replacement projects in Horsebridge Hill and Elenors Grove are progressing well, with both projects set to be completed ahead of schedule.
“Our experienced teams have been working extended hours and at weekends to get these schemes finished as quickly and efficiently as possible, assisted by traffic management that has allowed long, uninterrupted trench runs.
“We know these works have been disruptive to Island residents and thank people for their patience while we complete the final stretch.”

So that’s 4 weeks the between the 2 not 7..
What do they want a medal, certificate or Oscar for doing a job, just because they are finishing a bit earlier ,they think its a bonus after all the disruption they have caused multiplied by bad weather
This is how they work. Pretend it will take ages and set low expectations, then boast about how wonderful they are when they finish at the time they secretly intended in the first place.
Sounds like Ryanair..
Playing a fanfare when they arrive on time… Because their predicted arrival time is based on an exaggerated flight time.. so even when they’re late, they can claim to be on time….
Funny, once you wake up the CEO things
can be done much quicker.
He has obviously kicked the numpties into touch.
Like we had a choice. Why our council let this mega rich company do this to us is beyond imagination. Southern water should have teams working 24 hours 7 days a week when this sort disruption is caused. Other countries do
Basically all they’ve proved here is that they are guilty of very poor planning, under-resourcing, or both.
It also confirms that IWCC failed in its duty to ensure disruption is minimised. (Again)
None of that is worthy of praise.
You never see no one working weekends
if they worked weekends it would finish even
quicker.
Hope it is not to facilitate putting flouride in the water, as mandated by the government for all UK’s water. Being slightly corrosive.
