Isle of Wight charity Sight for Wight’s latest eye healthcare awareness campaign, specifically aimed at Primary School children, was launched last Tuesday (28th June).
Primary Schools across the Island donned their hats and sunglasses throughout the day to highlight the importance of protecting our eyes from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays.
The charity, which is celebrating 155 years of supporting people on the Island living with all levels of sight loss, produced an educational and fun video that was shown on the day, appropriately entitled, Be wise – Protect your Eyes! with every Primary School on the Island provided with a copy – free of charge to show on the day.
Lisa Hollyhead, Sight for Wight’s CEO said:
“We did it! We successfully united the whole of the Island by engaging with every single Primary School on the same day. And what a tremendous success it was, with the message going out to our children loud and clear”.
Children’s eyes are more susceptible to the harmful UVA and UVB rays that can lead to age-related macula degeneration and cataracts. The earlier we protect our eyes, the less likelihood of such conditions forming as we get older.
Lisa also said:
“Every penny donated to Sight for Wight remains on the Island to help each and every Islander living with any level of sight loss, live a safe, independent and confident life.”
