A pair of shoes belonging to missing Ryde woman Joanna Orpin have been found at the bottom of Culver Cliff, however Police are continuing their search for the 42-year-old today (Friday).
A fourth day of searches are underway at Culver Down as part of Hampshire Constabulary’s continued enquiries to locate Joanna, who hasn’t been seen since Tuesday morning. The search has been one of the largest operations seen on the Island in recent years with multiple resources utilised and thousands of pounds spent.
Police have now confirmed that a pair of trainers belonging to Joanna were discovered on Wednesday. Island Echo understands both shoes were found on the beach and rocks during a search at the base of Culver.
A black Audi belonging to Ms Orpin was found parked at Culver Down viewpoint car park at around 10:00.
Police are keen to hear from anyone, such as dog walkers, who may have seen Joanna in the area of Culver Down between 07:00 and 10:00 on Tuesday.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Heelan said:
“Our thorough search operation, in at times challenging weather conditions, has been assisted by our colleagues from the coastguard, Isle of Wight Search and Rescue (WightSAR), and our specialist teams including the marine unit.
“We have concentrated our activity in this area after a pair of trainers was found on Wednesday, the shoes have been confirmed as belonging to Joanna. This search operation is expected to be completed at some point tomorrow (Saturday) with all areas thoroughly inspected.
“We remain concerned for Joanna’s welfare and are providing support to her family at this time.
