Bedford Lodge in Shanklin, which has been welcoming guests for over 120 years, is set to change hands with current owner Karena Barton placing the B&B on the market after 10 years.
The 13-bedroom boutique hotel has been owned and operated by Karena Barton since 2007 and has operated 6-7 months of the year; however due to the birth of an additional family member the property’s freehold has been introduced to the market by leisure property specialist Fleurets, and marketed off a guide price of £640,000.
Bedford Lodge became a boarding house at the turn of the 20th century, therefore welcoming guests for approximately 120 years. Before the 1900’s Bedford Lodge served as a private villa for several decades and prior to settling as a B&B some 20 years ago also traded as a successful restaurant and hotel.
The building itself is believed to date back to the 1840s and still retains much of its Victorian charm, featuring fireplaces and high ceilings throughout. The property also possesses a dining room, guest lounge with sunroom as well as mature gardens.
Nick Earee from Fleurets is marketing the property and comments:
“During her 10 year occupation, Karena has undertaken continuous refurbishment projects, escalating the property from its original 3 stars, to 4 star silver. The business boasts 4 stars from Visit England as well as a 2014 Visit England Award. Furthermore, Bedford Lodge has also been presented with a hospitality award from the IOW Chamber of Commerce and was highly commended in the Tourism South East Awards.”
