An Isle of Wight seaside cafe described as a hub to ‘meet, refuel and explore’ has been granted a full premises license.
County Hall approved an application from Isle of Wight Bars for the Freshwater Gate cafe opposite the Albion Hotel on Gate Lane.
Licensed opening hours are from 08:00-10:30, from Monday to Friday.
Six conditions relating to the sale of alcohol, record keeping and respect for local residents are listed on the Isle of Wight Council’s website.
In an application form, Isle of Wight Bars said:
“We would like to have a premises license to give us the flexibility to maintain the premises, create employment and to offer alcohol refreshment to our clientele and visitors.
“Where alcohol is consumed for off sales, this will be from reusable polycarbonate vessel.”
On social media, the cafe hailed the approval as “very cool news”, adding: “great times ahead”.
The applicant mentioned a number of steps to promote licensing objectives in its submission to the council.
There were pledges such as training staff on conflict management and responsible alcohol sales, managing smoking and outside areas and conducting routine litter checks.
Others included displaying signage asking customers to respect neighbours and leave quietly and orderly, having clear evacuation procedures and conducting regular sound monitoring.
