Police on the Isle of Wight have launched an urgent search for a missing man this evening (Thursday).
It’s understood that the individual is considered to be at high risk of harm, meaning additional resources are being put into locating the male as soon as possible.
WightSAR – the Island’s voluntary search and rescue organisation – has deployed a full team at the request of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary. They were called out just before 19:30.
Boots on the ground are understood to currently be searching the Thorness Bay area of the North Wight, which is situated between Porchfield and Cowes.
However, the National Police Air Service helicopter is circling in the skies above Culver Down near Bembridge, where a single Police vehicle is also present alongside another vehicle at Yaverland.
It’s thought that the 2 searches are connected, but this has not been confirmed.
Police are yet to issue an appeal for information so it is unknown what the male looks like, when he was last seen or where he could possibly be.
UPDATE @ 20:33 – The search continues this evening, with the Police helicopter relocating to The Bay Area from Culver. Particular attention has been paid to the cliff tops, but now also inland on open space near to Sandown Airport.
Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has been launched and is conducting a shore search between Sandown and Culver.
UPDATE @ 21:02 – The NPAS helicopter has now stood down from the search in The Bay area, which has been confirmed as being separate from the ongoing search in Thorness.
Police on the ground have now relocated to the Fairway area of Sandown and the marshland towards Alverstone and Adgestone in the search for a missing woman. Police have not released any details of this woman.
UPDATE FRIDAY @ 06:35 – A missing person appeal has now been launched to find 28-year-old Brandon Reddin. Read more here.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the woman missing in the Sandown area has been located by Police.
