Ryde Rowing Club’s Annual Regatta takes place this coming Saturday (6th June), the second regatta of the 2014 Hants & Dorset Championship season, with the 3rd – at Shanklin – scheduled for the following day.
Entries for the regatta are said to be up on 2014, with 101 confirmed entries and at least 7 known late entries to come. With such high numbers the regatta will require a packed programme of 20 races to be completed in just over four and a half hours over an 1820m course from Appley Beach towards Ryde Pier and return after a buoy turn.
Races will take place for Senior, Junior/Senior, Junior and Novice men in coxed fours, Senior and Junior men in coxless pairs and Senior, Junior and Novice Men in Single Sculls. For Ladies there is Senior, Junior, Novice and Masters coxed fours and a Ladies Novice sculling event. There is also a Masters Fours event, which can be mixed.
The regatta is scheduled to start at 14:30 with a race every 10 to 15 minutes following by a prize giving at the Clubhouse in Appley Park at around 18:30.
Some very close racing is expected and spectators are being welcomed to view this free event – the best vantage point being from the sea wall by Ryde Canoe Lake.
