It has been a difficult start to the season for the Wightlink-sponsored Ryde Rowing Club, but there was some encouraging signs at Swanage Regatta on Saturday.
The Boys J16 Coxed four of Joel Smith, Dom Douglas, Jacob Redstone, Joe Groves and Cox Austin Smith performed particularly well to record the Clubs first win of the season with a comfortable victory in the strongly contested event.
Tom Kearney then replaced Jacob Redstone in the boat to race in the Men’s Novice Fours event where they finished 4th in their heat narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
The men’s Junior Pair of Will Ford and James Smith started well in their heat but some wayward steering had an impact and they to just missed out on a place in the final.
Dale Buckett in the Novice Sculls also just failed to make the final – but Micky Jenner in the Men’s Senior Sculls finished in 3d place.
Two Ryde Ladies – Kate Wirehurst and Abi Locke raced in composite Ladies Novice Four with Newport – producing a strong performance to again just miss out on a place in the final in what was only their 2nd ever race.
