Island Roads has issued a fresh update on highways work across the Isle of Wight, as multiple schemes continue at pace ahead of the busy summer season.
The PFI contractor says it recognises the current period is one of intense activity on the network and has thanked residents, businesses and road users for their continued co-operation.
Island Roads has reiterated that efforts are being made to coordinate works and minimise disruption where possible, although the high volume of applications for highway work remains an ongoing challenge. The company also confirmed it intentionally limits works during peak summer months, resulting in a higher concentration of projects at other times of the year.
At Binstead Road, work has progressed well and is has been completed ahead of schedule, with the road reopening late yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
The Wroxall embankment stabilisation scheme remains on track despite an extended scope, with completion anticipated later today, subject to third-party utility works. A further update is expected.
At Grange Farm along Military Road, work is expected to be completed later today, subject to materials arriving as planned.
Fairlee Road remains closed for works not led by Island Roads, although the contractor is coordinating additional improvements in the area. This includes resurfacing around 430sqm of the Racecourse near Crematorium Roundabout, taking place at the moment. Traffic remains flowing under marshal control, but short delays are expected.
Other activity under the closure includes tree pollarding by the Isle of Wight Council, access work by the Football Club at its new site, and street column works by Island Roads. DARES is also reported to be making good progress with infrastructure improvements outside The Orchards.
In Freshwater, resurfacing on Heathfield Road has been completed and the road reopened. Road markings will be finished during a short evening closure in the coming days.
Parkhurst Road in Newport is being resurfaced, with works taking place from 19:30 to 06:00 last night and again tonight. Lining is planned for Monday evening.
Howgate Road in Bembridge is due to close during daytime hours from Monday next week, between 07:30 and 17:00, reopening outside of those times.
Looking ahead, resurfacing is planned for Cliff Way in Lake on Thursday and Friday (30th April and 1st May). Brownlow Road and Ranelagh Road will be closed between 08:00 and 18:00 during the works, with resident access maintained where safe. Letters are due to be sent to affected households.

Why do they have to CLOSE roads at every opportunity now when traffic lights would be perfectly fine to use as they have been for the last 60, 70 years?!!
This week I’ve been diverted at Rew Street – closed – on Monday; Ballance Road- closed – on Wednesday; Parkhurst Road- – closed last night – Thursday!!
It’s ridiculous and unnecessary.
Yarmouth to Freshwater was also closed, but we were on a motorbike and went through the cones wondering where the works actually were taking place. It turns out, just a small amount of kerb was dug up!! WHY close the whole road???
It seems to be the new norm.
Traffic lights are fine and have been ok for years.
You are right, many road work locations are closed
yet no works are being carried out.
So, reading this , Fairlee Road is not getting resurfaced, just a few patches again. I suppose this is scheduled for next year when it will get closed again. By the way, Staplers road will be the next one to be closed, with all the extra traffic, it is in a poor state up around Monkey World.
Wasn’t it not that long ago that fairlee road was one way as they resurfaced it, and now here we are having these huge trenches dug up, I hope the resurface properly and it doesn’t end up looking like horse bridge hill does now, a disgusting patch work of roads.
These road works will never end, all the pressure being put
on other roads is creating more work.
Until more delays starting on Monday.
Same roads will always need to be resurfaced as its patched. New doesn’t work on old and it will soon break up again when the rain hits.

Britain uses cheap crap. Tax payers and council tax payers are paying the bill for shoddy cheap workmanship and products
