Southern Water have confirmed that work to replace a water main at Brading is to carry on for another 8 weeks, resulting in continued disruption for motorists traveling between Ryde and Sandown.
The scheme on Morton Road got underway during the first week of January but was quickly stalled by ‘ground conditions‘. It was initially said that the water main project would last just 6 weeks, however Southern Water have told Island Echo that contractors and temporary traffic lights will now remain on site until the end of April.
2-way temporary traffic lights currently stretch a significant distance, but as work moves further down Morton Road towards Sandown it is said that the site will been shortened and thus easing traffic delays.
The excavation in Morton Road is due to be resurfaced at some point this week.
Locals have taken to social media over the past few weeks to comment on the apparent lack of work taking place at Brading, with little or no contractors present during the working week. It has now been confirmed that new contractors and site management teams are in place, raising an eyebrow over previous arrangements.
A spokesperson for Southern Water has said:
“This project begun on January 3, 2017, however, we did run into a bit of difficulty during the start of the works. We now have a new sub-contractor on site and a new site management team and are making good progress.
“We’re sorry the work is taking longer than expected and will continue to keep customers updated”.
