Red Funnel is running a revised timetable on its hi-speed Red Jet service today (Monday), tomorrow and Wednesday following a serious fault with Red Jet 4’s starboard engine over the weekend. The vessel was a few minutes into its journey to Southampton when an issue with the fuel system for the starboard engine flagged up. The boat turned around and went back to West Cowes, where Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called over fears about the diesel onboard, as first reported by Island Echo. Now, due to what is being described as a ‘technical issue’ with Red Jet 4, and the fact Red Jet 6 is out for annual refit, a revised timetable is being operated for the next 3 days. Departing Southampton: 0530, 0640, 0750, 0900, 1130, 1240, 1350, 1500, 1610, 1720, 1830, 1940, 2050, 2200, 2310 Departing West Cowes: 0605, 0715, 0825, 0935, 1055, 1205, 1315, 1425, 1535, 1645, 1755, 1905, 2015, 2125, 2235, 2345 Speaking about the weekend’s troubles, a spokesperson from Red Funnel has said:
“[The] Red Jet service disruption was due to the 1425 West Cowes to Southampton service having to return to West Cowes 10 minutes into its journey. This was due to a fault with the fuel system on the starboard engine. The service returned safely to West Cowes and passengers were disembarked. “The fire brigade was called out as a precaution. At no point was there a fire or danger to passengers. “It became necessary to cancel a number of Red Jet services. By 1830 the service had been reinstated. “We’d like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused during this period.”
