Work to East Cowes’ Clarence Road Evangelical Church has finally been completed.
The premises is the worshipping home of a ‘smallish’ group of Christians who meet in a former Methodist Church hall (the main building was bombed in World War 2), but work needed to be undertaken to make the building more ‘user friendly’.
Due to changing circumstances, the trust for the building was transferred to Church Growth Trust, who care for the premises of a number of independent churches. In a bid to resurrect the premises, they appointed an architect, John Quinlan, who drew up a series of plans for the transformation.
Now, some years later, the works have finally been completed.
Church leader, Pete Young, has said:
“Over the past couple of years we have been planning, saving, giving, praying and working to transform our church building. We needed to provide disabled access and toilet facilities, replace the floor and update the lighting. The work is now completed, and so we are celebrating.
“We are more than delighted to open our building for all to see what God has done for us”
On Friday 6th September (11:00 – 14:00) and Saturday 7th (12:00 – 15:00) the building will be open – an opportunity to have a look at the new facilities, see the original and new plans, together with photos from the past – and grab a free cup of coffee/tea and a piece of cake.
