The Trouville Hotel in Sandown was transformed into a scene of Regency splendour last weekend as dancers and enthusiasts from across the Isle of Wight and beyond gathered for the annual ‘Seaside Ball’.
Hosted by Mrs Bennett’s Ballroom, the weekend-long event saw attendees immerse themselves in Austen-era culture through a programme of dance masterclasses, social gatherings and themed activities.
Guests dressed in period costume took part in traditional dances, with live music provided by the Warleggon Village Band, known for their appearance in the BBC series Poldark. Their performance сопровided the backdrop for reels, country dances and formal sets throughout the event.
The celebration attracted both seasoned participants and newcomers, all sharing an interest in Regency history, fashion and social traditions.
Many attendees also extended their experience with a visit to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s former seaside residence, rounding off the weekend with an additional taste of historical heritage.
One first-time attendee has said:
“Although this was my first weekend joining this event, I was warmly welcomed by everyone.
“It was a truly immersive weekend where I learnt lots, had a laugh and made new friends. I look forward to coming again next year.”
Organisers say the event continues to grow in popularity, offering an inclusive and welcoming environment for those interested in historical dance and culture.
