The sighting of a red flare in the Shanklin area led to a nighttime search being launched by HM Coastguard last night (Wednesday).
A member of the public reported to Island Echo that they had seen a flare at around 21:52. The individual was urged to contact the Coastguard on 999.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were soon tasked to conduct a search between Sandown Bay and Bonchurch.
It’s understood 1 or 2 white para flares were used to illuminate the remote area.
Search teams were stood down when nothing untoward was found.
