With just weeks to go until the start of the RORC Admiral’s Cup, the Royal Ocean Racing Club is gearing up for a season of events based in Cowes.
As well as organising the Admiral’s Cup for the first time in over 20 years the club will participate in the finish of West-East Trans Atlantic Race.
Following the Pre-Notice of Race announcement for the 2025 Admiral’s Cup in July 2023, the Royal Ocean Racing Club has received entries from yacht clubs and countries around the World. After a break of 22 years the Admiral’s Cup returns to Cowes this summer and promises to be a breath-taking display of hi-tech racing. As part of the event, the final race is the Rolex Fastnet Race where the ‘Cuppers’ will race alongside other entries in the Fastnet Race.
To date there are record entries for this race which leaves Cowes on 26th July.
Having taken on board comments from the international fleet planning to race, the Club has adjusted the IRC Rating Bands and points scoring for the 2025 Admiral’s Cup.
Established in 1957, The Admiral’s Cup is honoured throughout the world of sailing as the unofficial world cup for offshore racing. Teams from Great Britain have been the most successful, winning the trophy on 9 occasions. Germany has won four times, USA and Australia 3 times each, with Australia being the holders of this prized trophy. Victories have also been achieved by France, Italy, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
There are some notable entries from around the world this year: Preparing for the fierce competition entries include the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA), the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM), the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) and a Baltic Sea team. Hong Kong has raced five times in the Admiral’s Cup, consecutively from 1975 to 1981. Their last appearance was in 1995 in which Karl Kwok’s ILC 40 Beau Geste was part of the team. Kwok’s TP52 Beau Geste is the big boat for Hong Kong for the 2025 regatta, it is now based in Cowes.
For the first time in the history of the Admiral’s Cup a team representing the Yacht Club de Monaco will be competing. YCM member Peter Harrison’s Jolt 3 will be the big boat and a Carkeek 40, Jolt 6 will be skippered by YCM Vice-President, Pierre Casiraghi, nephew of Prince Albert of Monaco.
