Whilst the torrential rain the Island experienced yesterday (Thursday) may have stopped, several flood alerts and warnings remain in place today (Friday). There are currently 2 Environment Agency-issued flood warnings in place on the Island, 1 for Whitwell, Wroxall, Langbridge and Alverstone on the Eastern Yar and then for Sandown, Brading and Bembridge, also on the Eastern Yar. It is expected that in these areas flooding will occur today as a result of the nearly 30mm of rainfall experienced yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, flood alerts – warning that flooding is possible – are in place for the Eastern Yar, River Medina and the St Johns area of Ryde. Previous warnings were in place for the Lukely Brook in Newport, however, they have since been removed. Roads such as Morton Common in Brading remain closed today. Those who are in areas susceptible to flooding are being urged to put in place preventative measures wherever possible.

Why are Island Roads not out there clearing the floods!!, also if the
Fire Service are not busy they too can help get the Roads back to
normal.
Maybe you could get a bucket and help too?
You must be a bit simple, where exactly do you expect island Rds to move the water too? It’s all flooded, I can just picture you standing down Morton common in welly’s with a bucket chucking it over the hedge all day you prat!
LOL!!!!!!!!! Oh don’t say that, Paul was only saying something should be done and I agree with him. But your comment saying ‘chucking the water over the hedge’ is funny…
The lazy B’stards writing the comments are probably
Island Road Shirkers who sit in their vehicles all day eating and
doing Fcuk all, majority of them are work shy.
Ha Ha never mind you always get one.
Not sure where you would expect them to get rid of the water to. The reason for the floods is that there is nowhere for the water to go immediately. It takes time.
Morton common will always flood it’s built on marshland so are the houses further along in Brading
They should never have built homes in Monkton Brook the result now is flooding. They want to build more & more houses in Ryde & Bembridge & the new houses they built in Steyne Road ( called Steyne Marina ) as it’s so flooded, Climate change is contributing to all this flooding so we must take this into consideration.
Get on with it and stop moaning about the floods you can’t help nature
Maintenance Maintenance There is none. We live at a time when it’s DEAL WITH IT WHEN IT HAPPENS. Ditches are not cleared, drains are not cleaned, result treble the cost when it floods. Exactly the same as potholes. Water gets in, it undermines the ground, result collapsed drains and pipes, result, roads close, diverted traffic and treble the cost. IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.
Sensible comment for once on this subject, like most things in life preventative measures saves money in the long run, but are never high on the to do list from the enevironment agency or local authority,
This can’t continue. The only solution is to dredge the river yar. Why aren’t they doing it!
