Island Roads is set to begin major carriageway reconstruction works on Queens Road, Ryde next week (Monday 20th October), with the project expected to last for approximately 7 working days.
The works will affect the stretch of Queens Road between No 17 and West Street, with daytime road closures in place between 07:30 and 17:00 on weekdays.
During these times, no on-street parking or vehicle access will be permitted within the closure zone, although pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
Island Roads says the work is part of ongoing highway improvement efforts, and while some disruption is expected, residents and businesses are being thanked in advance for their cooperation.
The start date and duration are subject to change depending on weather or emergency conditions, and residents are advised to check on-site signage for any updates.
An Island Road spokesperson has said:
“We recognise that these improvement works may cause some inconvenience for residents and businesses, but we hope that any disruption will be offset by the long-term improvements we are making.”
Advance warning boards will also be installed to confirm the exact dates.
It was back in 2022 that Queen’s Road was closed for 3 months as a result of complex sewer repairs, as previously reported by Island Echo.

One hopes that it will start AFTER Green street has been completed! (Just saying as it hasn’t been mentioned and they may be unaware)
Another Island Roads bodge up is on the
cards.
Just what I was going to say, and Monkton Street is closed too, between Park Road and Rink Road.
Deep Joy. With all the road works on this sepic island, the roads should be smooth as silk. I have spent the last 20 years driving to avoid potholes. Island roads are a joke. And speaking of joke… maybe the Island road worker in East Cowes this morning should read up on their Green Cross Code. Walked out from behind his truck, carrying a Road Closed sign, not looking where he was going, too busy yelling to some one in the truck. luckily, I have good brakes and wasnt going over 20mph.
