Police are seeking information after a sheep was killed in the garden of a property on Lushington Hill in Wootton earlier this week.
The owner of the animal reported to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary that their pet sheep was attacked whilst in the garden earlier this week on 4th January (Wednesday).
It is believed the attack was carried out by a dog.
The sheep – which had been a pet for around 20 years – was savagely attacked, resulting in fatal injuries.
Police have said that the owner believes any attacking dog would also have been covered in blood at the time of the incident.
If you have any information about how the animal was killed, contact police on 101 quoting 44230004947.

Such a shame too many dog owners can’t control there pets I’m afraid
Dog owners who cannot keep their animals under control should be jailed.
The number of people injured and animals killed by dogs is a disgrace.
A high percentage are also too lazy to clear up their dog crap as well.
I agree that owners should keep their dogs under control.. (it is a legal requirement, but rarely seems to be prosecuted)
But “The number of people injured and animals killed by dogs is a disgrace”… Really???
Just how many then?…
& how does that compare with people and animals killed & injured by drunk, drugged, or just careless drivers….
One is 2 many !!!!!
This poor family had a pet killed !
Pet’s are part of the family, and yes drugged / drunk drivers also deserve a sentence . ….
Everybody who owns a dog should be in control of it , there are no bad dogs just bad owner’s…
As for Drink / drug driving they are the 1s responsible their choice 2 participate in drink / drugs ….
Very sad news.
All Dogs should be kept on a lead.
Definitely very sad about the pet sheep, & certainly the dog’s owner (assuming it was a dog) should face criminal charges,
But saying that all dogs should be kept on a lead is pathetic…
It’s a bit like saying that all alcohol should be banned, ‘cos a someone gets drunk and assaults someone else…
You yourself should be on a lead, I hope you don’t have a dog…
Please watch Richard D Hall silent killers, this is happening across the whole UK
Just read the summary on the above, blimey could not believe it. Should this be the case in this incident then the Police need to bring in specialist unit and I wonder if a PM was done on the sheep in this incident.
Just watched silent killers, I think it could be down to some kind of sick religious culture….
Since covid there’s to many irresponsible dog owners who haven’t a clue or care how to behave in a responsible manner. Unfortunately every dog owner is tarred with the same brush. But in general it’s the same all over, society has gone to pot.
Agree just walk along East Cowes Esplanade the number of dogs not on leads is unbelievable yet there are signs saying dogs must be kept on leads I am surprised that Councillor Love hasn’t done anything about he sees it regularly
Unless the attack was actually witnessed, who’s to say it wasn’t a fox or badger?
It is believed the attack was carried out by a dog. So it could have been a large Fox?
Daemy, Jon and Mr doodle, I agree 100% with your comments. This is all about the dog hating lynch mob.
My condolences to the owners of the poor sheep, and hope justice is done, should it be the case of a dog attack.
I am a dog owner and I can’t be sorry enough for the owners of the sheep that was killed completely heart breaking to hear that is has happened and I agree 100% with keeping dogs on a lead when not in their own gardens and cleaning up behind them. I have horses and there is public foot paths that go by and dogs constantly run in to the paddocks. When confronting the dogs owner the reply is “my dogs are fine with horses”. So you’re fine if your dog gets hurt because I can promise you now if your dog injures my horse I will not be and keep it on a lead!
I also have to pick up everyone else’s dog mess. The council do need to install dog bins at the exits of all its foot paths. It’s not fair on others.
Dog licences need to be reintroduced and at a realistic fee
This would prevent casual people buying a dog on a whim
All Dogs by law could then be chipped with the license details and owners stored on the chip
The license fee if expensive enough would then cover the HUGE cost of providing dog poo bins AND the massive weekly cost of emptying them.
Why should non dog owners pay more council tax to fund others whims?
License fee of£200-300 per year index linked would pay for dog warden and bin emptying.
DO IT NOW COUNCIL
Sounds to me Ian Lander, that you need to be kept on a lead. And electronic tagged , you sound like a very dangerous idiot. How about the council send you out to pick up all the poo and empty bins.
There’s a dog (or dogs!) owner out there who know it was their animal that is the culprit (s!), or realises it (they!) came back after being up to no good!
Are we certain it was a dog? How secure was the area the sheep was kept in? Too many questions unanswered but agree there are a number of dogs which should NOT be let off the lead.
Somebody knows or can guess it was their dog that did it?
Another dog owner who has no clue how to control their dog or they don’t want to!
So very sorry for the poor sheep, it didn’t deserve to die like that in its own garden.
Truly hope the owner and this dog is found very soon before it does more damage and it will.
I think it was a fox attack…
So Sorry for the poor sheep & it’s owners. I can’t help wondering if this is related to the recent dog attack on two sheep at Norton Green, which again were family pets..
Norton Green to Wootton to track down Sheep? What has the dog got a Sheep sat nav?
