UPDATED: Police are this afternoon (Monday) attending a serious incident at a property in Ryde.
A rapid response paramedic and at least 5 Police units were called to a block of flats on East Hill Road in the town at just after 16:00.
A cordon has been put in place surrounding the property and driveway opposite Ampthill and officers – wearing blue gloves – have been seen to enter the rear garden on the basement level. The incident is being described as ‘serious’.
Paramedics have left the scene, however it is not thought that anyone has been conveyed to hospital. An officer from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is now on scene.
East Hill Road remains open to traffic in both directions.
UPDATE @ 18:20 – Island Echo understands that a female has been detained by Police and taken away from the scene in handcuffs.
A cordon remains in place around the block of flats, including in the rear garden, however residents are being kept in the dark as to what has happened.
Detectives from Newport CID are attending the scene.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to issue a statement on the incident.
