Fire crews and Police are in attendance on Dudley Road in Ventnor this evening (Sunday) at a reported gas leak.
Appliances from Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown were mobilised to the scene on the residential road at around 18:50 and were soon joined at the address – an Isle of Wight Council and Police shared building – by officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
The incident has occurred in what used to be the Isle of Wight Centre for the Coastal Environment and is now Ventnor Neighbourhood Police Office near Salisbury Gardens on the road.
Specialist gas engineers are also at the scene carrying investigations into the exact nature of the leak.
It is believed that the leak has started in the road and has then flooded into the premises.
A risk assessment by specialists has been carried out and it is said that the leak currently poses no risk to the public.
