Commodores HouseAs usual, there will be plenty of activities and entertainment for the 2024 edition of Cowes Week which starts on Friday (26th July). On that Friday, events start with Opening Night on the Parade in the Regatta Village where Cowes Parade will have its range of food/drink outlets open from 17:00 and there will be entertainment. Meanwhile, other venues around the town including Cowes Yacht Haven will host their usual entertainment. Cowes Yacht Haven, (CYH) one of the sponsors of Cowes Week, will have a main hospitality area, which remains open to all. This will be on the south side of the site, providing easy access to and from Cowes High Street. Inside CYH guests will find the MUSTO Sailors’ Bar, managed by Troup Dudley Events, and a stage that will host the evening musical entertainment. Food will be available each day with a variety of foods from Island traders. From 13:00 The Commodores House off Cowes High Street will host a Pop-up Wine Bar featuring wines from Sea Change and local beers in its truly unique venue, bursting with sailing heritage and boasting uninterrupted views across the Solent. Keep updated at www.commodoreshouse.co.uk for opening times throughout the week. Saturday sees the start of sailing and on shore there is something for everyone. On Cowes Parade from 10:00-16:00 The Tall Ships Youth Trust (TSYT) is delighted to be providing tours of one of its Challenger yachts, These tours will be available every day throughout the week. No booking necessary, just pop along to their pontoon at Trinity Landing. Also all day Saturday and throughout the week the Cowes Week charity partners TSYT and the RNLI are joining forces to bring daily competitions to the event in their marquee in the Regatta Village. There will also be a number of singers/bands performing from 14:30 until late on The Parade stage. Cowes Yacht Haven has entertainment from 17:3030 and most of the pubs have live music not only on Saturday but across the week. For those seeking entertainment slightly away from the sea there is Northwood House and Park. Its tea garden will be open from 11:30-17:00 from the 27th July -3rd August with teas served in the house if it’s a rainy day. The Lawn Bar will have its usual refreshments and entertainment. This year Northwood House has partnered with “The Garden” for the refreshments. These venues will be open most of the week but check with Northwood House as weather conditions can change plans. Some special events will also be hosted at Northwood House which will be highlighted on other days but this Saturday of “The Week” sees the first of the Bliss in the Ballroom- Vintage Afternoon Tea events.-Tickets £24. Northwood House Entertainment in Cowes High Street also commences on Saturday and continues throughout the week. Sunday 28th July is Family Day. As well as the Parade and around the town activities already mentioned there will be the Family Day Challenge from 13:00 -16:00. when you will be invited to ascend to the top of a 95ft mast aboard TSYT’s Challenger 3 at Trinity Landing. Minimum donation of £25 to take part plus Cowes Classic Boat Museum will be open this day from 12:30 to 16:00 and will be open during the week at these times as well. For those who enjoy a special tea- a second chance to sample Bliss in the Ballroom- Vintage Afternoon Tea at Northwood House plus from 12:00 – 16:00 the inaugural Island (sic) ROVER Rally with all Land Rover makes & models welcome with their owners. Northwood House will also be hosting in the Lawn Bar Cowes Week Super Sunday. Headlining the Super Sunday stage at 16:30 will be a solo tribute to Elton John (Simon Spur). Earlier in the afternoon, the Wight Diamonds Marching Band will be playing a full concert from 14:00 and to finish the day at the Lawn Bar -Dance Preachers. Monday is Charity Day. Visit the official charity stands- The Tall Ships Youth Trust and the RNLI. with a chance of hopping aboard The Tall Ships Trust training vessel Challenger 1 and the RNLI will have numerous activities along The Parade. Tuesday is Women’s Day. This day celebrates the contribution and achievement of women in sailing and recognises some of the major successes of women in the sport. The third Bliss in the Ballroom- Vintage Afternoon Tea event at Northwood House will take place. Wednesday-Youth Day at Cowes Week when Cowes Week focuses on the next generation of sailors. As well as the usual events at Northwood House/Park there will be the “Ultra 90’s vs 2000’s Experience”. A night of dance anthems – played live. Supported by Mufti Day. Plus DJ Omar’s Dance Anthems party until late. Ticketed Event £15 in advance. Food from “The Garden”. Thursday1st August- Royal Navy Day plus 2 special events. At Northwood House 12:30 – 15:00 Cowes Week Ladies Lunch where you can enjoy a 2-course lunch with coffee for £42.50 per person in the the recently redecorated Northwood House Ballroom. This will be served by Island caterers “All About Catering”. Then the highlight of the Cowes Week shoreside events for some- The Mount Gay Party, with the much sought after Mount Gay Red Caps once again available for the early birds. Join in the fun 20:00-01:00 (Friday) at Cowes Yacht Haven-but regatta competitors only. The Musto Bar Friday-Cowes Yacht Haven Events Centre hosts the Cowes Week overall prizegiving starting at 19:30.All competitors are welcome to attend, with prizes for Overall, 2nd and 3rd in each class. This is followed at 22:00 by the Musto Closing Party. Join Musto, one of the regatta’s sponsors for the end of Cowes Week closing party in the CYH Event Centre with DJ Mark Covell, At Northwood House, what is billed as the party of the week, the Epic Friday Night Party will be held in association with Mermaid Isle of Wight Gin & Henri Lloyd (Cowes). It’s free to enter before 20:00 (Subject to capacity). In addition to all these events there will be the usual functions at the yacht clubs but most of these are invitation only. No mention of the fact that entries for the regatta are down to below 400, compared to over 1000 when it was at its peak. It’s reverting to being a village regatta, no longer a global sailing event.
