A former HSS hire centre building in Newport will be given new life storing and selling plastics.
Ornamental Plastics Co. has been granted consent for a change of use of 12 Parkhurst Road on the outskirts of Newport which is currently a vacant commercial unit.
The proposal also includes a series of improvement works.
A statement from the applicant’s agent, Dean Parkman architecture, said the regeneration plans would contribute to the area’s vitality and support local economic activity.
Planned works include shop signage and façade upgrades, reinstating a road sign, replacing exterior railings and installing new doors.
Goods the premises would store and sell include flooring, wall panels, skirtings, balustrades and decking.
It will open on Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:00 and on Saturday from 08:00 to 16:00, according to a submitted application form.
The Isle of Wight Council’s decision report on application 25/01664/FUL said:
“The proposed use as storage and distribution, with associated retail would have no greater impact in terms of neighbouring amenity than the previous uses in terms of noise disturbance.
“No objection would be raised on highway safety grounds since any harm caused to highway safety would be no greater than that previously deemed acceptable.”
