Photos have revealed just how big a WWII bomb – which caused significant Hovertravel disruption when it was discovered in Southsea earlier this week – actually was.
As previously reported by Island Echo, at around 09:30, contractors carrying out sea defence works found the un-exploded ordnance on the beach at Southsea.
Hovertravel – whose terminal is just down the coast – had to suspend services for the majority of the day. Island Echo understands that the terminal itself was evacuated at around 12:30.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary erected cordons in the local area, with Police present in the area until later that evening.
The item – which turned out to be an SC1000kg Air Delivered Weapon – was later removed safely by a specialist team.

Even after all these years we are still witnessing the
damage that was done to our country, back in the days
we protected our borders.
