A new plastic-free community in Bembridge has been set up – and here’s how you can get involved. The Plastic Free Communities network has been created to tackle plastic pollution at source – from beaches and green spaces right back to the brands and businesses that create it with people now uniting in the fight against avoidable plastic. It’s not about removing all plastic from our lives. It’s about kicking our addiction to throwaway plastic, and changing the system that produces it. Plastic is a growth industry, with 1 in every 10 barrels of oil now used to create new plastic. A female duo are driving the program; Ally de Trey and Lindsey Newberry. Lindsey has said:
“I started this project after spending a year beach litter cleaning and surveying. We found so much plastic which is destroying the life in our oceans. I want to channel people’s concern about this into further action and that’s why I am so passionate about this project.”
Ally says:
“Following my move to Bembridge I have become increasingly aware of the damage being done to our local biosphere, beaches and sea life, by plastic pollution. This project enables me to channel my concern into effective local action and I am delighted to be a part of it.”
You can join them at a fun drop in session on Thursday 20th June at Bembridge Village Hall (5 Foreland Road, Bembridge PO35 5XN) between 15:30 and 17:30.

With a truly never ending amount of vinyl and plastic crafts crossing the English Channel each day sadly it is the contents not the materials which are causing the most damage to our own environment.
Whilst plastic is an issue, the contents all eventually requiring a piece of our diminished countryside, more of our energy, water, adding to our sewage, landfill, heated homes adding to CO2 , lengthening queues for housing, hospitals, dentist, doctors, and costly education, then recycling plastic is a far smaller problem atm.
Best vote reform to limit furthering the problem
Or not. It probably won’t make any difference.
I really must congratulate you Bluto for managing to spin any and all news stories around to immigration, benefit claimants and/or politics.
Bravo to you sir.
Thank you ….,,,,, I think?
Not overly difficult as massive, in the literal sense of the word, never ending arrivals of impoverished people choosing to live in a small country will effect most everything in a negative way.
If in doubt advertise your home to give a free meal and health care and education along with money and clothing which YOU fund, see if your standard of living suffers.
You won’t, yet happy for others to fund them all. Odd
Vote Reform
You should definitely try thinking….it can work wonders. Of course not overly difficult – easy enough to spin any story to suit your own ends.
Not sure how you reached your conclusion of “..happy for others to fund them all.” based on my previous? Indeed how do you know what I am happy for? And again how do you know my taxes don’t fund them?
I am afraid Reform will trick the easily led as they did under their previous guise, with promises of taking back our own borders and extra millions for our NHS if we break away from the tyrannical European Union.
Alas no political party seems to have the intelligence, the foresight or indeed the courage to repair our broken country.
Vote Reform to ensure that Labour win.

…
somewhat contradictory statements – it is either a plastic free community or it isn’t. This is a bit like saying, I have given up smoking, but I still smoke.
I guess then, all that plastic in their mobile phones and their electric cars will need to go then – so step up ladies, give up your mobiles and cars
What a load of rubbish
