St Helens Parish Council is bringing some festive cheer to the village with Chairman John Coleman unveiling the village’s Christmas Tree in time for the relaxation of the COVID-19 guidance in December.
Cllr Coleman said:
“It’s been a challenging year for residents and local businesses, and we hope by organising the early arrival of the tree and seasonal lighting, we can bring a smile to the Parish.
“We also hope to organise a seasonal project with the local school, and will be discussing plans at our next meeting, under Covid regulations, and in partnership with other organisations’.
Meanwhile, St Helens Parish Council has secured funding to work with Aspire Ryde to maintain a support network. They’ve also worked on the resilience project for North East Wight. Residents can contact the helpline on 01983 823600.
John concludes:
“The Parish has been very prudent, and also secured other funding, and hope to use our limited resources to benefit local residents at this time of the year, enabling the community to enjoy a safe celebration”.

Will Bembridge Parish have one now the old chamber has been sold on? We could use some cheer this year more than most.
Old pots, the lights have been put up in the village war memorial and large verges in the village so if the tree is to come, it should be soon.
I preferred the village lights as they used to be, just lights without all the large red blobs, as it had an touch of class back then. Still standards slip everywhere I suppose, even our finer Island villages.
